AS PART OF OUR PLAN for The New domino we are committed to improving community access to and enjoyment of one of our city’s greatest resources, its waterfront. Our plan includes over 4 acres of open space made up of a landscaped esplanade along the water’s edge, four new public connections from neighborhood streets to the waterfront, a large recreational space for the public to enjoy, and access from Grand Ferry Park to the north and South 5th Street to the south.

Proposed Esplanade and Play Area |
Domino will include a new waterfront esplanade stretching five blocks from South 5th Street to Grand Street. The 1,300-foot-long esplanade will provide a variety of experiences along the water’s edge, from landscapes featuring a generous promenade lined with a variety of species of trees to open green spaces with lawns to sit on, grand seating steps leading from upland streets to the esplanade, play areas for children, and diverse plantings that reflect the site's waterfront ecology.
The landscaping will be designed to enhance the spectacular panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline and the stunning perspective of looking down to the harbor through three landmark bridges to the Statue of Liberty.
It is anticipated that industrial artifacts salvaged from the existing buildings on the site will be used within the open space as design elements to retain a sense of the site’s industrial history.
All of the open space on the site will be transferred to the public and will be open to all.

Proposed Refinery Lawn |
In addition to the esplanade, our plans include a one-acre magnificent open space behind the Refinery complex and facing the river. The contoured lawn will gently slope toward the water, providing an ideal location for basking in the warm sunshine, picnicking or watching spectacular sunsets.

Proposed Open Space at South 2nd Street |
A truly great public esplanade must be easily accessible to all residents of the community. Every street leading to the Domino site will be opened for the first time in over one hundred years, and will connect the residents of Williamsburg to the new esplanade and the central gathering area.

Proposed View from Grand Ferry Park |
The park immediately to the north of the Domino site, Grand Ferry Park, is an important part of the life of the Williamsburg community. Connections will be made from the Domino esplanade to Grand Ferry Park, linking the park to a much larger recreational waterfront corridor.
